As a project analyst in B&D's Chicago office, Mr. Safakas brings a passion for building strong and resilient communities and a knowledge in program management and planning. Born and raised in Chicago, he studied sociology at DePaul University, focusing on the dynamics of urban society. Recognizing a deepening interest in the relationship between a city and its people, he then pursued a master’s degree in urban planning and policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His career background includes working at the American Planning Association in a research center dedicated to sustainability practices and vulnerability analyses. In this capacity, he was published in two Planning Advisory Service Reports while managing a $465,000 project. This experience coincided with his work at the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region V office, where he developed content to be included in the National Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, a comprehensive analysis that ranks threats and hazards across major metropolitan areas based on their likelihood and duration.
