In 2007 Meredith College retained B&D to develop options for a new outdoor field to address the needs of the college with respect to academics, athletics, and recreation. The objective of this study was to assess the existing conditions and develop options for a new multipurpose field. The options to be examined included the need for soccer and plans for an expansion for athletics, education, and recreation. Our work involved: a series of administrative reviews, a competitive context analysis, a scheduling analysis, site selection, and a cost analysis. We then developed a plan to address the soccer field, expand recreational facilities for other sports, create a path for walking/jogging, and a program for intramural recreation. Two scenarios were presented for the field, along with a phasing plan. These were both accompanied by cost estimates that considered both real and synthetic surfaces. In 2008 we were retained again to perform program management services for the project, including sourcing a design-build team for the new facility. And in 2009 the Meredith Athletic Field and Track Complex was completed.
