In 1999 St. Catherine’s School contracted B&D to perform a comprehensive master plan for the school's athletic facilities. Our specific responsibilities included an evaluation of existing facilities; focus group interviews with students, staff, alumni, and parents; development of building program options; site analysis; and detailed programming in preparation for architectural design. We also conducted a competitive context analysis of peer schools and discovered that St. Catherine’s was deficient in the amount of indoor space and fields allocated for athletic and physical education programs. In order to meet its stated mission of developing each child intellectually, emotionally, physically, and spiritually, St. Catherine’s recognized a need to increase opportunities to participate in physical education, intramural athletics, and interscholastic athletics, and this required major improvements to indoor and outdoor facilities. The resulting $18 million project was to be located on the campus Green. We assisted through design and were retained again in 2001 as the owner’s representative through construction, managing the quality, schedule, and cost of the project, and reviewing all aesthetic submittals with the client. The 70,000 SF Anne Whitfield Kenny Sports and Fitness Center opened in 2003.
