The District of Columbia Jewish Community Center undertook a highly challenging construction project in 1996: the $17 million renovation of its historic building in downtown Washington, DC. B&D was hired to serve as program manager for this renovation that completely ‘gutted’ the interior and constructed new facilities within, including athletic courts, a swimming pool, fitness and training space, a 260-seat theater, an art gallery, a social hall, classrooms, child care facilities, and administrative offices. We represented the owner’s interests in day-to-day coordination of the architect, general contractor, and consultants and suppliers. We also managed the project schedule and budget and developed customized financial management and reporting systems that tracked all expenditures, commitments, and change orders on a weekly basis. The 60,000 SF renovation project was completed in 1997.
