Guy Mason Recreation Center Program Management

In 2009 the District of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation, through the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization, needed program management and project oversight services for the renovation of, and addition to, numerous community recreation centers, athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds.  B&D was retained for these services, and the work was completed using the design-build delivery method.  Our work on the Guy Mason Recreation Center included interior renovation of existing art studios, classrooms, a seniors’ lounge, and bathrooms.  This work also included finishes, ADA compliance, windows, MEP and life-safety system upgrades, as well as new construction of an exterior stair tower and elevator for ADA access.  The 9,900 SF project was completed in eight months at a cost of $4.2 million, and opened in 2011.
