In 2006 B&D was selected by Building Hope: A Charter School Facilities Fund to complete a preliminary test fit analysis of a property to assess its ability to accommodate an elementary, middle, and high school project for the DC branch of the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP). A site plan was developed, and an assessment report was completed. Based on our findings, the proposed site was purchased. Then in 2007 we were selected by KIPP DC to provide program management services for the new school which entailed: developing and maintaining a project milestone schedule and budget; ensuring regular communications with the school; reviewing the design documentation; and making recommendations on constructability. We also conducted a competitive process to select a contractor and facilitated the submission of construction documents to the proper regulatory bodies. By 2007 all demolition, abatement, and site preparation tasks were completed, and in 2008 the new $19 million, 85,000 SF school building at 4801 Benning Road opened.
