Student Union Programming and Program Management

In 2009, Savannah State University engaged B&D—in association with Woodline+Solutions—to provide comprehensive programming and program management services for the development of a new 48,000 square foot student union.  The university’s student body was in a growth mode, increasing from 3,900 students in 2009 to a projected 5,000 students in 2012.  Such change necessitated the implementation of solutions on campus to meet the evolving needs of Savannah State students.  The new facility would contain the following spaces: full-service food court, convenience store, large events space for up to 700 occupants, student government offices, student organization spaces, welcome desk and information center, study lounges, social lounges, computer lounges, and meeting rooms. As the program manager, in collaboration with Woodline+Solutions, we assisted the university in managing the design and construction of the facility to ensure the project stayed on budget and schedule.  After a successful implementation process, the 50,000 SF, $11.75 million student union opened in 2011.
