Monterey Peninsula College breaks ground on a new music school
A crisp coastal breeze carried the scent of eucalyptus and sea salt across Monterey Peninsula College’s downtown campus on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, as students, faculty, and community members gathered in high spirits to celebrate a long-awaited milestone — the groundbreaking for MPC’s new Music Building. The crowd’s applause echoed across the site where three aging structures will soon give way to a dynamic, single-story facility built for music instruction and performance. This transformation, part of MPC Transforms and funded through the Measure V bond approved in 2020, reflects the college’s commitment to creating modern, accessible spaces for learning across its Monterey, Seaside, and Marina campuses.
“Moments like this remind us why we do what we do,” said Cody Carpino, B&D Director and project manager. “This isn’t just about constructing walls. It’s about building spaces that inspire creativity, collaboration, and community. MPC’s vision for the arts is something truly special, and we’re honored to help bring it to life.”
With the ceremony complete and construction ready to begin, crews will soon move from demolition and utilities to vertical work on the new facility. The Music Building is scheduled for occupancy in December 2026, opening a new chapter for MPC’s music program with purpose-built rehearsal rooms, recital spaces, and faculty offices. B&D was proud to stand alongside the MPC community as this new era for music education took its first downbeat.
